What being West Ham means to me:
Last night I had it confirmed that I will be going to the OS for the opening game. I've got 2 tickets sorted and it's going to be my 6 year old sons very first game. He's already West Ham mad, wears his shirt with pride, knows most of the songs (the cleaner ones) and lives and breathes every kick and header when they're on the TV. When I got the news that we were definitely going I called him down from his bedroom and told him. He burst into tears and hugged me as if he's life depended upon it. It was one of the proudest moments of my life. Like him, I cant't wait for that day to come. West Ham is in the blood and regardless of whatever happens in and around your/our lives it's always a constant. It's family.

I'm afraid to admit I was a glory seeker in the 70s... remember getting a free team photo pre the 1975 FA Cup final (from a garage)... I was 7 at the time and been hooked ever since.

Persuaded my Newcastle supporting Dad to take me to UP in 1977 for my first match (v Birmingham) and the rest is history... probably expected a bit more silverware though!

Took my son to his first game in 2002 (aged 5) and the rest of the kids have all followed. My youngest daughter went to her first game last season (aged 7) and sat wide eyed looking at the crowd and said 'the whole world is here'.

What West ham means to me??

A broken thumb.... my head being shoved in a kerb and then stamped on... about 15 whacks on the head with Police truncheons over the years... a police horse standing on me foot and breaking my toe... Oh and a bruised knee when falling from the cages over at Stamford Bridge..

Bloody mixture of my inlaws, geography, and Alan Shearer at Euro 96, made my 6 year old son a bloody Geordie. He was born in Canning Town, but has renounced his heritage.

The heartbreak.

The Shame.

Great post, put a huge smile on me face here.

Have two sons at home now. Eldest who at 21 months already celebrates our goals by copying daddies jumping and cheering. The one week old son will learn soon too :-)

Will be one of my proudest ever days when I take them to our ground in a few years time. Hope they have a lifetime full of West Ham related memories.

One Mac - thats the one - 14th March 1987.

Remember my telling me all about Liam Brady but being 6 I had no real idea at the time.

What I do remember is our tickets were in the West Upper, given to us by a scout of the club, so we stood in the players entrance before the game, Frankie Mac walked passed and I didn't realise who it was.

Also remember being told we would be able to go the dressing room after the game to meet the players if we won but not if we lost.

The result, the not meeting the players, not recognising Frank, I could have been disappointed but I wasn't, I was absolutely hooked.
